Bocachica is where it all began.
30 minutes by boat from the affluent city of Cartagena and its flourishing tourism industry, we discovered a community rich in culture and zest for life, but poor in almost every other way. Inhabitants of the island suffer from significantly worse infrastructure and employment prospects than the mainland.
Blue Apple Beach House already supports the
village as far as it can, but through Fundación Green Apple the possibilities are far greater.
Bocachica is the first community to begin to benefit from Green Apple's activity, providing much needed additional income streams and training opportunities.
However we hope that our model - focussing on small communities - can be copied elsewhere in Colombia (and beyond) long-term.
Blue Apple will continue to donate land and transport to Green Apple initiatives.
